Campeonato de Primera A 1959
Torneo que repitió el esquema del anterior en el que se enfrentaron los 16 equipos todos contra todos en dos ruedas. Se jugó entre mayo y diciembre de 1959. Se agregó el último campeón de la segunda división: Ferro Carril Oeste.
El campeón fue San Lorenzo, y se convirtió en el representante argentino en la primera Copa Libertadores a disputarse en 1960. Racing Club fue el subcampeón. Para definir el descenso se fijó un desempate entre los dos equipos que habían igualado el peor promedio: Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata y Central Córdoba de Rosario, el que finalmente bajó a la Primera B. José Sanfilippo (San Lorenzo) con 31 goles fue el goleador del torneo.
