Temporada 1999/00
Se mantuvo el formato del torneo anterior. Se jugaron dos torneos independientes, Apertura y Clausura, en una sola rueda por el sistema de todos contra todos, en las que el segundo constituyó los desquites del primero, y cada uno consagró su propio campeón. La tabla de posiciones final (sumatoria de ambos torneos) sirvió para definir la clasificación de los equipos a los torneos continentales (2 cupos de Copa Mercosur y 4 cupos de Copa Libertadores 2001). Se dispusieron dos descensos por sistema de promedios y se implementó, como novedad, el sistema de promoción, el cual permitía que dos equipos de la segunda división enfrentaran, en llaves diferentes, a dos rivales de la primera, como alternativa para ascender.
Para su disputa se agregaron Instituto de Córdoba y Chacarita Juniors, ascendidos ambos desde el Nacional B.
